SFC RANDY
McCAULLEY KILLED IN ACTION
A Pennsylvania NationalGuard Soldier assigned to
Company A, 1-110th Infantry, based in Indiana,
Pa.,was killed in action in Iraq on Thursday,
March 23.
Staff Sgt. Randy McCaulley, 44, of Marion
Center, Pa., was shot while
performing a combat patrol with his unit in
Mudiq, Iraq. He was immediately
transported to the Camp Taqaddum Shock and
Trauma Center, where he later died
of his wounds.
"Staff Sgt. McCaulley served our nation and our
state for more than 25
years," said Governor Edward G. Rendell. "I urge
everyone to pause for a
moment to honor his dedication and sacrifice,
and keep his family in your
thoughts and prayers."
McCaulley served in the regular Army from 1979
to 1983 and joined the
Pennsylvania National Guard in 1984. During his
military career, McCaulley was
awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, National
Defense Medal, Overseas Service
Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal, Air Assault
Badge and the Combat
Infantryman's Badge. He was posthumously
promoted to the rank of Sergeant
First Class and will be awarded the Purple
Heart.
"My prayers and heartfelt sympathy go out to the
family and friends of
this brave man," said Lt. Col. Loris F. Lepri,
commander of the 1-110th
Infantry. "His bravery and dedication serve as a
reminder to all of the
sacrifices made each day to ensure freedom and
democracy prevail in Iraq."
McCaulley is survived by his parents, James and
Donna McCaulley, and his
sons, Cody and Dustin. Memorial services have
not been scheduled at this time.
McCaulley is the 24th Soldier of the
Pennsylvania National Guard to be
killed in the Global War on Terror. More than
2,200 Pennsylvania National
Guard troops are currently serving in Iraq.
