Fort Indiantown Gap Rec Center Opens
Opening on 13 August 2004, the new Fort Indiantown Gap Recreation Center is located at the corner of Scheld and Clement Avenues in building 13-190. The 8,000 square foot federally-funded building is a pre-engineered type construction that was designed by the Training Site Engineers. It is intended to replace the old Recreation Center, building 13-16, World War II era wooden structure that is much smaller and no longer economically repairable. The Recreation Center is a place for our military members, their families and other customers training at Fort Indiantown Gap to go relax, eat, watch a movie and have a good time. Features of the new Recreation center include an internet café with 12 computer stations. These computers along with the Internet service were obtained through the generous donation of the Pennsylvania National Guard Associations (PNGAS). PNGAS is committed to support for soldiers, airmen and their families. There is also a snack bar and large eating area. There is a theater that currently seats 105 persons that will be expanded to seat 210 persons. There is also a recreation area that has Cable TVs, three playstations, pool tables, ping pong, air hockey and foosball. The contract for construction of the facility was awarded to Lobar Construction Services Inc. Dillsburg, PA on 6 November 2003. Actual construction began in early December and was completed in August 2004. Mr. Matthew B. Ayers was the Project Manager and Mr. Dean Peters was the Job Supervisor. The parking lots and the sidewalks were added by the dedicated efforts of the Maintenance Division, Bureau of Facility Engineering, DMVA.
